So, I know this is a weird movie to start my Movie Madness. I would've thought it would be something like Schindler's List or Sophie's Choice. But this is one of my mothers favorite movies and she had gotten it for Christmas. I had never seen this movie, and this is the 1st movie that I watched that I had not seen before in the new year.
So if you don't know what this movie is about, it's about vampires. Now since the outbreak of Twilight I have kinda of stayed away from vampires. But this is way before Twilight, 1987 to be exact. The film stars Kiefer Sutherland, Diane Wiest, Ed Herman, and Jason Patric.
So this teenager Micheal (Jason Patric), his mother (Diane Weist), and his little brother Sam (Corey Haim) move to a small town in California, in with the boys grandfather (Barnard Hughes). The town is a little hinky right off the bat, stating on the back of a billboard that it is the "murder capitol of the world".
So to make a long story short, teenager falls into bad crowd because of hot girl, and becomes "half a vampire", because he drank the leader of the gang's (Kiefer Sutherland) blood. His little brother finds out, and with the help of two comic store nerds goes and kills all the vampires, because for Micheal to turn back to normal the "head vampire" has to die. Oh and the hot girlfriend is also a vampire. Anyway after Kiefer Sutherland's character is killed, you find out that he is not actually the "head vampire", but Micheal's mothers boyfriend (Ed Herman) is. And then he is killed by the grandfather who runs his truck through their livingroom, impaling Ed Herman. So everyone lives happily ever after. No more vampires.
So if you are looking for a semi-horror movie, with some comedy thrown in, I highly recommend The Lost Boys. Oh, and the soundtracks pretty bitching too. So to wrap things up, this film gets 3 1/2 out of 5 Mandy Movie Madness Stars.
